The largest rose festival in Europe is celebrated annually in Grasse. This year, the 47th edition of the ExpoRose takes place from 12th to 14th May and offers a relaxing weekend inspired by the queen of flowers.
Grasse, the perfume capital of the world, is transformed into a single rose garden with 8,500 bouquets of roses; 25,000 cut flowers for decoration; and 13,000 roses for sale.
In ancient legends, their origin is described romantically as a remnant of dawn on earth. Nowadays, the rose most commonly stands for love and sensuality.
This year’s ExpoRose is paired with the theme of tango as a tribute to Line Renaud’s musical talent. Renaud is a French singer and actress, and is this year’s guest of honour as well as a member of the jury. The festival allows professionals and members of the public to mingle at events, attend exhibitions and lectures, and participate in floral bouquet contests.
"Like the flower, tango is elegant, timeless and sensual," explained Line Renaud.
In order to move away from last year’s theme of Les Années Folles, this year combines the heritage of the rose with Renaud’s tango-inspired songs and dance performances in Paris.
The mayor of Grasse Jérôme Viaud and Line Renaud will officially open the festival on Thursday 11th May at the Place de l'Evêché in Grasse.
As every year, there are various events and activities for visitors to participate in such as concerts, workshops, and competitions at different locations in the old town.
Entrance is costs 5€.
