Cannes tests public warning system

As part of the Alpes-Maritimes’ new public alert and information system, the Palais des Festivals in Cannes will be testing out its siren on Wednesday 25th April from 9.30am.

The city has shared an information pamphlet ahead of the tests, which explains the format of the siren: three sequences of one minute and 41 seconds in length separated by a period of silence. It also explains that the sirens will be tested on the first Wednesday of every month.

It also offers advice for citizens in the case of a major crisis: find a building in which to take refuge; listen out for information diffused on the radio/television; remain where you are - don't try and collect your children from school as they will be protected by their teachers; and don't use your telephone unless for an emergency.
