Mercantour ski resort Auron is celebrating its 80th anniversary this weekend - 25th and 26th February. From dancing and fireworks to a snow bar and a marshmallow party for children, there will be plenty afoot on the slopes. The Colombier piste will also be opening on Saturday night for a nocturnal ski under the floodlights.
President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region Christian Estrosi will be attending the anniversary weekend along with Eric Ciotti, President of the Council for the Alpes-Maritimes region, and the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur’s vice president, Colette Fabron. Auron has become internationally renowned thanks to investment from the Union for Ski Resorts in the Mercantour and, more recently, investment from the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur.
Auron is considered a forerunner in the innovative project Smart Mountains: Stations of tomorrow initiated by the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Region and it has seen many famous ski champions (such as Margot Bailet, Matthieu Bailet and Marion Bertrand) train on its slopes.
