Easter at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

One event recounts the preparations that went into the grand soirées that were held by the Baroness Béatrice and her cousin Duchess Elizabeth de Gramont before in the 20th century (represented by two actresses in full costume).

This Easter week, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild will open its doors for a few exclusive days of magic and revelry in the Baroness’s home. There will be two different types of guided tours and a free family-orientated interactive mystery tour: ‘Hunt for the Stolen Painting’.

The first guided tour will be a re-enactment of the Two actresses will play the part of the baroness and her cousin in full costume.

The second guided tour is called ‘Secrets of the Garden’. Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild was known for her great love of flowers and she would often bring back exotic plants and flowers from her various travels. The villa has nine themed gardens designed by the famous French landscape architects Harold Peto and Achille Duchêne. An actor will dress up in the clothes of the Baroness’ gardener and guide you through each of the gardens (among them are the French garden, the Florentine garden, the Japanese garden, the Spanish garden and the Provençal garden).

The third treasure of the week is the ‘Hunt for the Stolen Painting’: a mystery trail around the private salons and apartments of the villa, which has been created for children and parents alike to discover the masterpieces belonging to the Baroness. Children will be provided with an activity book and will have to discover clues along the way to find the Baroness’ stolen painting!

The events are each taking place from 12th to 19th April and a complete schedule can be found at www.villa-ephrussi.com.
