The much-anticipated IRONMAN triathlon will attract some of the greatest athletes in the world and hundreds of sport enthusiasts to the Promenade des Anglais on 23rd July for one of the Côte d’Azur’s leading summer sporting events.
While the IRONMAN of Nice generally takes places in June, Christian Estrosi, the Mayor of Nice, had decided to delay this year’s competition until after the one-year anniversary of the 14th July terror attack.
Participants will swim from the Plage du Centenaire in the bright waters of the Mediterranean Sea for 3.8km then bike for 180km in the hilly hinterland of Nice before finishing with a 42km run on the Promenade des Anglais. A handful of professional Ironmen as well as world champions such as Frederik Van Lierde, the IRONMAN World Champion in 2013, have confirmed that they will take part at the upcoming event.
The prestigious IRONMAN challenge was birthed in Hawaii in the late 1970s and, since then, the concept has been reproduced all around the globe, enticing millions of ambitious triathletes.
