Museums in Nice fling open their doors and welcome visitors to discover art through a series of ephemeral performances, exhibitions and creative workshops. The Masters class of 2016/7 Cultural Events Management from the University of Sophia Antipolis and Nice have once again organised Mars aux Musées. The event is in its 16th year and is unique in France. Their slogan is, ‘Organised by students, for students’, although most of the events are not restricted to students alone. The theme for 2017 is ‘Ici et d’ailleurs’, which translates as ‘Here and elsewhere’.
Mars aux Musée begins 2nd March and runs until 24th March. There will be events in 10 museums around Nice including: the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain (MAMAC), Musée Matisse, Musée d’Archéologie de Nice, Musée Masséna, Galerie de la Marine, Musée National Marc Chagall, Musée Départemental des Arts Asiatiques, Musée de la Photographie Charles Nègre and Musée des Beaux-Arts.
The inauguration will take place in MAMAC Thursday 2nd March at 6.30pm. There will be a discussion around ideas such as ‘Interior and Exterior’, ‘Silence and Sound’ and ‘The Self and the Other’ to name but a few. Events will be taking place in various museums throughout the month and one of the highlights will surely be 4th March in the Musée Matisse where there will be discussions on poetry and travel in relation to Matisse’s work. Héliothrope will also show short experimental videos and an inspirational dance has been created based on Matisse’s masterpiece ‘Flours and Fruit’, where each colour in the painting will symbolise a dance move.
Further information on the various events can be found at www.marsauxmusees.fr. March is sure to be an inspiring and surprising month in all the galleries in Nice!
