On Saturday 24th March, the Monegasque sovereign family officially launched the ‘party season’ in the principality with the historic Bal de la Rose at the Salle des Etoiles of the Sporting Monte-Carlo. With the theme of Manhattan brought to life by Karl Lagerfeld, who in turn took inspiration from cartoon Sempé, 900 privileged guests were treated to a spectacular evening of dancing, gourmet arts and charity.
14,000 roses and flowers, 1,000 metres of pink and grey taffeta, 900 gilded Napoleon III chairs… The Salle des Etoiles was transformed into a pastel and blossomed reflection of New York City for the event, which has marked the start of the summer party season in Monaco since 1954. An array of dance acts – including tutu-ed ballerinas – provided the entertainment alongside mega blues star Taj Mahal, himself from Harlem.
