With large-scale commemorations planned in memory of the victims of last year’s terror attack, local authorities in Nice are warning residents and visitors of traffic modifications, road closures and parking restrictions within and around the city at the end of this week.
Numerous security measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the more than 8,000 visitors expected at the symbolic Bastille Day festivities. Participants should favour public transportation; arrive at least two hours in advance for the commemoration ceremony programmed for 4.30pm (gates will open at 2.30pm near the Promenade du Paillon), and only carry the strict minimum since bags will be prohibited at the event.
Traffic will be disrupted from 10pm on 13th to 3am on 15th July, with vehicle restrictions on the Promenade des Anglais.
On 14th July from 7.30am to 2pm, vehicles will not be allowed on to many commonly used streets including: Rue de Rivoli; Rue de France; Rue Beretta, Rue Cronstadt as well as Quai des États-Unis; Avenue des Phocéens; Avenue Félix Faure and Avenue de Verdun. The tramway will also be suspended between Jean-Medecin and Garibaldi and will remain partially interrupted especially between Masséna and Opera Vieille-Ville until 17th July at 6am.
While some parking lots will be closed, parking is recommended at the following locations: Nice Etoile, Gare Thiers and Parking Ferber.
From 14th at 8am to 15th July at 3am, you should also expect tunnels near Magnan and the Paillon to be temporarily closed.
