Over the weekend, a fire broke out in the town of Lucéram, about 25 km north of Nice, and continued to blaze for three days. In total, nearly 150 hectares of land were destroyed.
Last Sunday, more than 200 firefighters were deployed along with three water bombers who worked to contain the powerful blaze while heavy smoke hovered over the hillside of Nice. There were no serious victims, only a lightly injured couple and a house that was evacuated.
The cause of the fire has not been clearly identified, however, early indications suggest it may have been caused by machinery. A man and his companion were taken to the hospital for hand injuries and smoke inhalation.
Due to the increased risk of wildfires in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, citizens and tourists are advised to pay close attention to their behaviour and stay away from restricted areas forest areas.
