The 25th edition of the World Stars football match will take place in Monaco on Tuesday 23rd May, pitting world famous Formula 1 drivers against the Monegasque sports association A.S. Star Team (in support of the Star Team for Children association) at the Stade Louis II. As usual, the football match will officially open the festivities around the 75th Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco.
Prince Albert II is the captain of his ‘star team’, which includes former A.C. Milan footballer Marco Simone, retired French midfielder Fréderic Déhu and infamous Italian goalkeeper Francesco Toldo. Claudio Ranieri will act as coach for the team.
The National Piloti, the official name of the Formula 1 driver’s football team, has three world champions playing in the match: Nico Rosberg (2016 Formula 1 champion), four time consecutive winner Sébastian Vettel, and 1998 and 1999 Formula 1 champion Mila Hakkinen. Mick Shumacher, Michael Schumacher’s son, will also be on the pitch. The National Piloti was founded in 1981 and it is an entire football team comprised solely of race car drivers.
Last year, more than 25,000 people attended the match and this year is expected to be even busier. This impressive line-up draws on some of the best and brightest sporting legends Europe has to offer.
