Tackling the tourism crisis as figures show a decrease in 2004
A conference was held at the Radisson hotel in Nice on Friday to tackle the problem of falling tourism figures on the Côte d’Azur. At this conference, attended by 300 professionals, a partnership convention between the CRT (Comité Régional du Tourisme Alpes-Maritimes) and “Maison de la France” was signed in order to tackle this growing problem. Tourist numbers dropped by 10% last summer on the Riviera and for the year they were down by 5% on 2003, which were already lower than those for 2001 and 2002. The conference aimed to find a new approach for tourism from 2005-2010. Marketing was targeted as being of particular importance to the strategy, with webmarketing singled out as being an especially useful tool. They aim to target the specific markets of business tourism, urban tourism and golf and nature tourism.
