YACHTING

Expected to occur on the 8 until the 13 September, when Cannes transforms into the most important boat show in Europe, the prefectural authorities decided to cancel this year's festival because of the deterioration of the sanitary situation

After a series of cancellations over the summer, breath was held over whether the Cannes Yachting Festival would be able to take place. To everyone's disapointment, the show will not go on in September in the beautiful bay of Cannes. The Cannes Yachting Festival is one of the biggest boat shows in Europe and this year, the organisers had planned on offering a new concept between land and sea from the Old Port to Port Canto: more than 120 new monohull and multihull yachts, more than 80 exhibitors and key figures in the sailing world such as Isabelle Autissier and Armel Le Cléac'h, the very inspiration of the Yachting Festival.

The first boat show of the nautical season had surprises in store again for this year. This 43rd edition had created the event with a great novelty: The Regatta, a 4-round event over 2 days which will separate 5 teams of small racing catamarans. The Cannes Yachting Festival team had also developed a number of refurbishments to ensure an ever more enjoyable experience by emphasizing the visibility of the different boats and the comfort of the visitors. Among these refurbishments was the newly renovated Quai Max Laubeuf with its new marina dedicated to motor multihulls.

Also new this year, the Luxury Gallery was supposed to welcome luxury homes, artisan crafts and art of living pieces in an innovative and adapted structure. A new catering area was also planned. And of course, the fashion show of the 6th Concours d'Elegance, an exceptional show, was supposed to bring together many vintage and modern boats of less than 12 metres. This unique parade, a reflection of the Yachting Festival, exposes all the historical richness of yachting in the heart of the Côte d'Azur. The Concours d'Elegance will be held on Saturday 12 September on the Plage du Festival.

Due to the coronavirus, this year’s event would have taken place under special conditions... The Reed Goup Exhibitions in charge of the organisation of the show, in close collaboration with the exhibitors, the port authorities and the various partners in Cannes, had taken care to adapt the organisation of the Yachting Festival to enable everyone to enjoy their time whilst respecting the sanitary measures recommended to limit the spread of the coronavirus: the installation of markings on the ground, a visitor counting or regulation system, the wearing of masks, hand-sanitising gel and reinforced daily disinfection of public spaces...
