Former UN Secretary General salutes Cannes’ green efforts

The esteemed politician signed the official guestbook of the city of Cannes.Ban Ki-moon, the former UN Secretary General, has commended Cannes’ sustainable development and commitment to the Paris Climate Change Agreement during a visit to the city earlier today. Ki-moon was received at the mairie in Cannes by mayor David Lisnard and is currently attending the 70th Taxe Free World Exhibition at the Palais des Festivals. 

Signing the official guestbook, Ki-Moon wrote: “I commend the strong engagement of the citizens of Cannes city for the implementation of the UN vision of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and Paris Agreement on Climate Change. I wish the continued prosperity of the beautiful city of Cannes.”

The distinguished diplomat served two terms as UN Secretary General between January 2007 and December 2016, and was succeeded by Portuguese politician António Guterres. 

The Taxe Free World Exhibition, which promotes tax-free luxury goods, will continue until this Friday. It is expected to attract 12,000 professionals from around the world.
