4th of July Celebrations on the French Riviera

American Independence Day by Karen Arnold (c) CC0 Public DomainWhether you are an American living on the Cote d’Azur or someone who loves American culture, the 4th of July is the day to celebrate American Independence. Each year, cities along the Riviera celebrate the American Independence Day at restaurants and through American clubs and organisations.

This year again several places will share their love of the American culture. A day to remember, punctuated with music, dance and iconic American cultural experiences. Along the Côte d’Azur, Nice and Monaco are two cities that take the celebration of the American national day very seriously. But Villefranche-sur-mer might remain the most famous celebration of the French Riviera.

The small town of Villefranche-sur-Mer celebrates America’s Independence in a big way. Beside Valérie Blouin, the President of the Association Les Américians de la 6e Flotte, the afternoon features a US Jeep parade from 4 pm, then a pin-up show, Country and Rock music with dance demonstrations and at 8 pm, a New Orleans Jazz concert with the James Andrews Quintet.

The American Club of the Riviera will be present for the day-long festivities plus they have a special evening planned after with a dinner at the famous restaurant “La Mère Germaine” which played a key role in feeding and caring for the US Navy during WWII.

The Tap House in Villefranche will having a Brooklyn IPA special with plenty of other beers and goodies for the day. 5 place du marché.

MaNolan's Pubs always do up the day with specials on Budweiser and Jack Daniels. They have locations in Cannes, Old Town Nice and Nice Port.

In Nice, there will be two celebrations in the city centre. The first one is organised in collaboration with the association Democrats Abroad. This association represents the official Democratic Party arm for Americans living outside the United States. The gathering is organised for expats of all nationalities living on the French Riviera. Their 4th of July Pot-luck picnic will be held in the garden of the Holy Trinity Church, 11 rue de la Buffa in Nice between 6 and 8 pm and each guest is asked to bring a dish to share with others, while the Democrats Abroad association provides soft drinks.

The Hard Rock Café on the Promenade des Anglais will organise a “Garden Party” with food trucks and music. The “Garden Party” will be held at noon, then the Independence Day celebrations will begin at 6 pm and continue through the night.

In Monaco, the American-owned Stars’n’Bars restaurant in Port Hercules is hosting a Street Food Festival for the whole family with games, live music, inflatables and more. It’s free entry with a cash bar. From 6 pm.

The Monaco USA Association, founded in 1973 from the idea of H.S.H. Princess Grace will be hosting their gathering for the International on the Stardeck of Stars’n’Bars restaurant.

There are plenty of options, so you will have to pick carefully where you want to celebrate the 4th of July.
