CÔTE D'AZUR & PROVENCE
In light of the numerous travel restrictions and also the ever-present threat of the coronavirus ‘still circulating’, it makes good sense to stay put. In fact, the Cote d’Azur Tourism Board has launched a massive campaign to remind locals of just how splendid our own region is. So, instead of flying to some far-off place this summer, why not enjoy what we have right in our backyard, a place where the world dreams of coming for their holiday.
From stunning beaches, to deep gorges with waterfalls, to incredible hiking and biking trails, we are lucky to have some of the most gorgeous natural escapes without having to go very far.
If you’re drawing a blank on what to do, the Côte d’Azur website is a great place to start when looking for ideas and suggestions of fun activities. From bike trips to hiking trails to different day excursions, you may be surprised at how many sports and cultural itineraries there are.
Here is just a sample:
-Tour the Esterel mountains on their many trails by foot or electric bike which gives a little help up those steep hills! We’ve tried SoBike Esterel, who offers rentals from 35€ for a ½ day or a family package of 4 bikes for 4 hours at 150€. sobike-esterel.com
-Kite surfing, scuba diving, jet-skiing, paddle boarding and kayaking are great ways to have fun and beat the heat. For a full list, visit cotedazurfrance.fr
-Canoe the Loup River near Vence: Canoe Kayak du Loup offers 1h30 for 15€. canoekayakduloup.com
-Explore the Lérins Islands off Cannes, including the monastery where monks make (and sell) fine liquor or step inside the legendary cell of the man with the iron mask at Fort Royal. Musée de la Mer: Tél : 04 89 82 26 26
-How well do you know the history of Grasse and its international importance as the perfume capital of the world? There are not only museums but working perfume makers that you can visit and even make your own custom fragrance. For all perfume activities: paysdegrassetourisme.fr
The Côte d’Azur France tourism website lists hundreds of activities that you can book directly on the site, including many of the above mentioned. Whether you are on holiday or just looking for something fun on the weekend, check out the site: cotedazurfrance.fr
Great deals on local hotels and spas
In addition to our surroundings, hotels across the Riviera are offering summer specials to entice us to book a ‘staycation’. And a true staycation is not just staying home on your holiday, it’s booking a getaway not far from home! Why not luxuriate for a few days in a luxury hotel on the Croisette? With all the money saved on airfare, treat yourself to some pampering like waking up with a stunning view of the Med. This was the suggestion of Cannes Mayor and president of the CRT Côte d’Azur Tourism, David Lisnard, when he proposed the idea of “l’exotisme cannois.”
The city of Cannes has arranged with local hotels to offer a fourth night free when three nights are booked (for the first 5,000 reservations) and numerous tourism packages including spa deals, family offers, and unusual and exotic leisure experiences. For details on how to book, visit: cannes-destination.fr
The travel organisation, Skål International Côte d'Azur, has also put together various hotel packages throughout the area offered by their local members, including La Vague de Saint Paul, Le Cantemerle, Château Le Cagnard, The Splendid Hotel & Spa Nice and many others. To book, contact the hotels directly and site ‘SKAL OFFER’. For a full list of member hotels, visit the Skål website: www.skal-cote-dazur.fr
