To mark World Cancer Day on 4 February, local cancer charity, Mimosa Matters, is working to make the traditional 'Coffee Morning' big in the Côte d'Azur! They have a section on their website to get you set up with flyers and tips so that you can set-up your own gathering with friends, neighbours or co-workers.
In the United Kingdom, ‘Coffee mornings’ are a popular fundraising event to support a cancer charity. It started in 1991 and today, businesses, schools and local communities from the southern shores of England to the Scottish Highlands organise little gatherings around a cup of coffee or tea and some home-made pastries. People bake cakes and cookies and serve coffee and tea, all of which are sold for a small fee.
While the events raise a significant amount of money overall, the goal of a coffee morning isn’t about raising a lot of money, it is to enjoy time together with the community for a good cause. Each gathering takes their earnings and submits it a larger fund which then winds up being a substantial donation to charity.
Mimosa wants to replicate this community comradery here in the Côte d’Azur by encouraging the organisation of our own annual Coffee Mornings. They are looking for businesses and schools to get involved by hosting the selling of coffee and pastries. All funds raised go to support local cancer patients and their families.
If you would like to host your own, visit their website to register your event and they will provide instructions, tips and flyers. www.mimosamatters.org
