Kitesurfer Matthieu Girolet has finished his epic tour of the French coast – from Dunkirk to Nice – on the beaches of the Côte d’Azur. The 44-year-old from Béziers had been at sea for over a month and completed over 2,400 kilometres when he made landfall yesterday afternoon.
The Channel, the Atlantic and finally the Mediterranean, Girolet took on the challenge in 24 different stages, sometimes spending seven hours in (or above) the water and in all weather conditions since departing from the north of France on 22nd May.
Girolet is an experience mariner, having won the Tour de France à la Voile in 2009. This year’s event leaves Dunkirk on 6th July to arrive in the French Riviera, or more precisely Nice and the Promenade des Anglais, on 22nd July.
